The situation in Ukraine reminds us that the United Kingdom’s security and ability to be a force for good in the world is largely based on the strength of our economy. 

Last week was International Woman’s Day.

With Putin’s bombs continuing to rain down on Ukraine, the brave women and girls impacted by this unprovoked war are at the forefront of my thoughts. 

The ongoing situation in Ukraine is one we all watch with worry and concern.

As a country, we have said we stand with Ukraine and we continue to do so in this fast moving situation.

I am delighted that Cannock Chase has been identified as one of the Government’s 109 priority places that can bid for investment in the arts and culture. 

The Government has recently published its landmark Levelling Up White Paper.

At the heart of the levelling up agenda is the idea that opportunity and prosperity should not be determined by where you live and should be spread evenly across the whole of the UK.

I recently held one of my regular meetings with officials at West Midlands Trains to discuss our local rail services.

I would like to pay tribute to Colour Sergeant Watchman V - Staffordshire Bull Terroir and mascot of the Staffordshire Regimental Association - who has recently passed away.  

Watchman V was the fifth mascot to bear the name Watchman in a line of mascots stretching back to 1882.

Since my last column, the Omicron variant has been spreading extremely fast across the United Kingdom. It is consistently breaking records for the highest number of cases recorded since the pandemic began.

Globally we have been fighting the Coronavirus for nearly two years. In that time the Government has taken necessary steps to protect the NHS and save lives.
